PNG to JPG and JPG to PNG converter

Convert PNG and JPG in your browser, choose JPG background and quality or lossless PNG, then verify dimensions and transparency handling.

About this conversion

PNG and JPG converter

PNG and JPG solve different jobs. PNG keeps transparent pixels and is well suited to logos, interface graphics, and lossless working files. JPG is opaque and uses lossy compression, which makes it practical for photographs and systems that expect JPEG files.

How to convert your file

  1. 1Add one or more still images and check the preview names before converting.
  2. 2Choose JPG for a compact opaque image or PNG for transparency and lossless output.
  3. 3If you choose JPG, set the background that should replace transparent pixels and select a quality level.
  4. 4Keep the original dimensions or enter maximum dimensions, then confirm the downloaded file's type, pixel dimensions, and treatment of transparent areas.

Export settings

JPG quality
Start around 90 for normal web photographs. Raise it for fine texture; lower it only after checking edges and gradients.
JPG background
JPG cannot store transparency. White is conventional, but a page or brand background can avoid an unwanted halo.
Resize
Maximum width and height keep the source aspect ratio. Reducing pixel dimensions usually saves more space than aggressive compression.
Sharpening
Use a small amount after downscaling. Strong settings can produce bright outlines around high-contrast edges.
Output check
Compare source and download at the same zoom. Verify width and height in file properties, then inspect formerly transparent edges on the exact background where the JPG will appear.

Before you download

  • Converting JPG to PNG stops further JPG compression but cannot restore detail already lost from the source.
  • Canvas-based export normally removes camera EXIF, embedded thumbnails, and most other file metadata.
  • Animated images are treated as still images; this workflow is not an animation converter.

Questions and answers

Will PNG transparency survive JPG export?

No. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are flattened onto the selected background colour.

Does changing JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It changes the container and prevents another lossy save, but it cannot recreate detail missing from the JPG.

Why can the new file be larger?

PNG stores pixel data losslessly, so a photographic JPG converted to PNG is often much larger without looking better.
